Restorative Yin | Boundaries as the scaffolding of self-care

40 MINUTES | RESTORATIVE YIN | ALL LEVELS

Boundaries as the Scaffolding of Self-Care

In Yoga and Ayurveda, boundaries can be understood as an expression of Earth element. Boundaries are the stabilizing and grounding force that enables us to manage our energy wisely. Nedra Tawwab writes “boundaries will set you free.” In this yin practice we will use the wall as a metaphor for leaning into the power of boundaries as a way to explore the structures to safeguard our emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

When it comes to the practice on the mat, we use props and the wall to access how support enables one to open more deeply. When we take the practice into our daily lives, we may witness how cultivating healthy boundaries in our relationships enable one to feel safe and consequently, open the potential for greater intimacy and connection. With our emotions, a boundary can show up as a deliberate intention not to give a vicious thought your attention and energy. It can be calling upon ways to protect your own psychic energy without inheriting or taking on others.

Let this practice be one of reclaiming your self-care, leaning into love through integrating boundaries.

Suggested props: Wall, 1 block, blanket and a bolster.
