Restorative Yin | Rest is Revolutionary

35 MINUTES | RESTORATIVE YIN | ALL LEVELS

Rest is Revolutionary

In Ayurveda, sleep is considered one of the three pillars of life. It is the force of integration, renewal and rejuvenation. The modern world boasts grind culture - hyper-productivity of everyday life is the thief of deep rest. To truly drop into a state of rest is a form of resistance to our conditioned nature of capitalism and constant doing. It is a necessity for healing and integration.

Rest is practice of love. It a form of reconnection, not only to ourselves and the body’s inherent healing capacity, but when we are rested we are better resourced to show up to our relationships, our lives and our worlds. Rest is a radical act of love. So in this blend of yin and restorative poses, we reclaim the right to rest. By the way, shout out to the Nap Ministry for seeding the framework of rest as an anti-oppressive act, and inspiring this class!

RESOURCES

Self-Study: The concept “Rest is revolutionary” is inspired by an amazing Instagram account @thenapministry which focuses on rest as a form of resistance and reparation. Give this account a follow! Learn more here.

Threads: Worn in this video is Beyond Yoga. For me, conscious consumption is an important practice. One step in my journey to redefining my relationship to capitalism is minimizing my material goods and supporting companies that communicate with transparency and integrity. BY was one of the first yoga apparel brands voicing body positivity. They aspire for inclusivity of all bodies, backgrounds and shapes and don’t manipulate or touch-up their imagery. Plus their clothes are buttery soft yet resilient. I am an ambassador for BY which means I can offer my community 15% off every purchase with the code WANDERINGVAYU15 at checkout and in return they support me with a small commission. If you like this outfit you can shop here.

Space: I love supporting small businesses. This class was filmed at Yess Yoga in Minneapolis, MN. Check out this community here.
